- Scope:
To develop a methodology for erecting a componentised bamboo tower in the Tankwa Karoo for the AfrikaBurn festival. The event follows a strict zero-waste ethic, requiring the structure to be fully demountable with no trace left behind. Harsh site conditions added complexity, as the compacted, metallic soil made typical ground anchoring methods difficult.
While the design itself drew inspiration from existing precedents (supplied by the client), the primary task was to assess its feasibility for this unique context and to produce a reliable construction methodology and cost estimate.
